Constitution

Revolving Writer is an international collaborative project where people take it in turns to contribute to a cross-genre and non-linear 'novel'. The writer revolves every two months. During an 8-week tenancy each writer creates his/her own edition of the narrative. Writers must develop and interact with the ongoing fiction as well as adding new material in their chosen media. They can edit both the existing material and archived editions.

Revolving Writer acts as an amorphous creative platform. The cacophony of different voices will hopefully produce something new and ultimately cohesive.

The project apes a democratic society and asks all contributors to pass through the Constitution. Acceptance of the basic rules brings participants into the community of Revolving Writers.

The Guidelines

  1. Eight week writing period

Each participant has a eight week tenancy as Revolving Writer and must email their contribution to charlotteburns@revolvingwriter.com no later than noon on the last Tuesday of their residency. This will be posted onto the website the following day as the latest edition of the 'Novel'. The next writer takes their cue from this point.

  2. Archive

All editions are archived chronologically. Writers can retrieve and re-use previous editions from the archive.

  3. Non-linear

Progression is not necessarily linear. Writers can locate themselves at one single point in the narrative or drop back in throughout the existing material, or re-use archived material.

  4. Cross genre

Writers can contribute in their chosen form (be this text/image/sound/architectural model /video clip/graphics etc.).

  5. Edits

Writers can edit (hopefully in a progressive spirit) anything that has gone before.

  6. Polaroid ready-mades

There is a set of Polaroid ‘characters’ that can be used as a prop for writers.

  7. Discussion

The discussion is open invite and welcomes conversation, opinions, and debates on the project. Writers can use this as a resource if they so chose.

  8. Glossary

Coming soon – a glossary section where people can suggest weird and wonderful words. This can also be used as a resource for the Revolving Writers.
